Top 5 US Boxing Champions

A lot of extraordinary boxers belong to America. Here are the names of the top five professional American boxers of all time.

5 – Mike Tyson:


Mike ‘Iron’ Tyson, a great heavyweight orthodox fighter, holds a track record of 50-6 with 44 knockouts. He is a former boxer who started fighting in 1985 and gained fame very fast due to his extraordinary fighting skills. During his professional boxing career, Tyson defeated many great fighters like Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks and Brian Nielsen. He fought his last fight in 2005.

4 – Sugar Ray Robinson:


Sugar Ray Robinson was one of the best fighters in the world who was well-known for his fierce punches. He used to fight in orthodox stance in the middleweight division and fought as many as 200 bouts throughout his boxing career and won 173 fights with 108 knockouts. He lost 19 fights and 6 of his fights ended as a draw. His career lasted from 1940 to 1965.

3 – Floyd Mayweather Jr:


Floyd Mayweather Jr. also known as ‘Money’ and ‘Pretty Boy’ is one of the most legendary fighters of all time. The undefeated welterweight fighter possesses a track record of 49-0. Mayweather knocked out his opponents in the ring 26 times. His career started on October 11, 1996 and since then, he defeated many renowned and skilled fighters like Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez. He fought his last fight against Andre Berto on September 12, 2015. He announced his retirement soon after that fight.

2 – Joe Louis:


Joe Louis, also known as ‘The Brown Bomber’, was one of the most skilful and expert boxers in the entire history of boxing. The orthodox fighter used to fight in heavyweight division and possessed a track record of 66-3 with 52 KO’s. He won the first 24 fights of his career and then lost to Max Schmeling in his 25th fight. After that, he won 34 fights in a row but then lost in a fight against Ezzard Charles. Then after winning another 8 continuous fights, Louis fought the last fight of his career against Rocky Marciano at Madison Square Gardens, NY and got knocked out in the eighth round of the bout. His career lasted from 1934 to 1951.

1 – Muhammad Ali:


Muhammad Ali is the best American boxer of all time and is also known as ‘The Greatest’. Ali took part in 61 bouts throughout his boxing career, won 56 of them, knocked his opponents out 37 times and lost only 5 fights. Joe Frazier was the first person to defeat Ali in the ring. He put an end to Ali’s remarkable winning streak of 31-0. Later, Ali had a rematch with Frazier in his career’s 46th fight in which he defeated Frazier. Then Frazier fought once again with Ali and got defeated by him. Ali defeated many other renowned, skilful and expert boxing champions like Earnie Shavers, George Foreman, Bob Foster and Floyd Patterson. His career lasted from 1960 to 1981.
